Turning Star, Inc. is a privately owned company that manufactures flame retardant chemicals for use in industrial applications as well as fabrics and decorations. In addition to being a manufacturer, we are a full-service consulting company, providing treatment, testing, certification, consultation and training.

Turning Star was started in 1998 by current company president Tom Andrews with the goal of simplifying the process of finding the right fire retardants for our customers. Many of our customers come to us because they are encountering fire prevention codes for the first time, or they are faced with new and evolving fire codes. We help decipher the written code, handle the testing process or work with our clients through their process, and provide the certifications that prove compliance.

Our flame retardants have gained recognition across the country for their high quality, ease of application, non-toxicity, and their official recognition from the fire fighting industry and fire enforcement officials. We’re incredibly proud of this recognition and are working hard to continue to create new products that meet their needs.

About Tom Andrews, President

Tom Andrews has more than 25 years of experience working in the fire retardant industry.

He is certified by the New York City Fire Department and the California State Fire Marshall. He is a member of NFPA, ICC, ESTA/TSP, USITT,  IFAI and the Fire Resistance Task Group of the Entertainment Services & Technology Association (ESTA) Technical Standards Program (an ANSI-accredited standards writing organization). Tom also has a 2-year posting to the Advisory Committee to the California State Fire Marshall on Fire Retardants.
